A Complete Guide To Using Face Toner

Face Toner –  To better your skin care routine, it is crucial to understand what’s in your products and why you are using them. Many people like applying toner to a cotton ball and applying it to their skin, for instance, but don’t really understand the purpose. Face toner is generally applied to the skin after cleansing the skin to shrink and close pores. It is also helpful for people with acne-prone or oily skin for that extra cleansing feel.

Toners did not have the best reputation back in the day among beauty experts because of their ability to strip natural oils from the skin, but those toners contained alcohol and other harmful ingredients that dried out skin. Nowadays, natural skin care brands like Way of Will create toners with silk amino acids derived from the silkworm cocoon to support skin hydration and deliver essential nutrients to the skin without stripping the natural oils from the face.

Reasons to add toner to your beauty routine

Using a face toner can dramatically enhance the look of your skin by removing excess oil and shrinking pores. Toners can protect the skin by closing pores and reducing impurities from the environment. Believe it or not, alongside their ability to remove oil from the skin, toners act like moisturizers.

They are humectants, meaning they preserve the skin’s moisture! The best part: if you are constantly on-the-go and don’t have time to cleanse your face, toner can be used as an alternative to washing your skin to eliminate excess oil and dirt for a refreshed look.

Looks like water and acts like water

Beauty reporters at Allure magazine say toner “looks like water and acts like water,” so as you can imagine, it is packed with hydrogen and oxygen. Based on the toner, it can contain other ingredients like glycerin, antioxidants, and essential amino acids that build moisture on the skin. Some toners contain synthetic and harsh ingredients like alcohol, phthalates, and parabens, which are skin irritants. Avoid those toners! You want your skin to feel soft supple, not dry and inflamed.

How should you use toner?

You can use a few different methods, the most popular being with a cotton ball. You can apply a few drops of toner to the cotton ball and gently swipe it all around your face. Another method is to apply it to you hands and softly dab on the skin.
